TARC - Tenderloin AIDS Resource Center - Gold Rush! Acknowledgment, 2003

Founded in 1994, TARC was a community-based organization that serviced the needs of the diverse Tenderloin community. Volunteers assembled hygiene kits, needle exchange bags, and food bags. In 2006, they merged with Continuum HIV Day Services to become Tenderloin Health. The consolidation of TARC and Continuum was a response to the realities of reduced AIDS-related funding. Since 1995, the federal Ryan White CARE Act funding to the city has decreased by $13.3 million, or 32 percent. An additional 21 percent cut in Ryan White CARE funding is expected during the next five years, as cut in other government funding sources.

The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, Saint MORE! is Better, Our Lady of Boundless Lashes and Bottomless Boys, 2006

The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence® are a leading-edge Order of queer and trans nuns. They believe all people have a right to express their unique joy and beauty. Since their first appearance in San Francisco on Easter Sunday, 1979, the Sisters have devoted themselves to community service, ministry, and outreach to those on the edges, and to promoting human rights, respect for diversity, and spiritual enlightenment.

They use humor and irreverent wit to expose the forces of bigotry, complacency, and guilt that chain the human spirit.

The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence have universally proclaimed Juanita MORE! St. MORE! is Better, Our Lady of Boundless Lashes and Bottomless Boys! The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence proclaimed Juanita MORE! to be a Saint. For upholding and promoting the ideals, beliefs, and convictions held sacred by the Order, for creating positive changes in our world by honoring The Mind, The Body & The Spirit, for perpetually dedicating untold hours of freely expended energy in service to The Order and The Community, for promulgating Universal Joy! And, expiating stigmatic guilt everywhere she goes.

Be it Decreed That From This Day Forward - That your transgressions shall be reduced to mere fluff in the eyes of the Goddess who knows all and forgives all, Your good works shall be remembered in honor and perpetuity, You shall forever stand as a pillar of strength in The Community, You are hereby perpetually allied with the Order of The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, Inc.

motown mistress bay guardian.jpg

The Bay Guardian, Best of the Bays Mistress of Motown, 2008

The San Francisco Bay Guardian was a free alternative newspaper published weekly in San Francisco, California. It was founded in 1966 by Bruce B. Brugmann and his wife, Jean Dibble.[2] The paper was shut down on October 14, 2014. It was relaunched in February 2016 as an online publication.

Starting in 1974, the Bay Guardian published an annual "Best of The Bay" issue that listed the best restaurants, businesses, and activities in the Bay Area, based on a readers' poll and staff recommendations. The Bay Guardian claimed that its "Best Of" issue was the first annual guide of its kind and was copied by other publications.

BEST MISTRESS OF MOTOWN ”Drag queens - is there nothing they can't make a little brighter with their glittering presence? Squeeze a piece of coal hard enough between a perma-smiley tranny's clenched cheeks and out pops cubic zirconium, dripping with sparkling bon mots. Yet not all gender illusionists go straight for ditzy comic gold or its silver-tongued twin, cattiness. Some "perform." Others perform. And here we must pause to tip our feathery fedora to she who reps the platinum standard of awe-inspiring cross-dressing performance: Miss Juanita More. No mere Streisand-syncher, class-act Juanita dusts off overlooked musical nuggets of the past and gives them their shiny due. Despite punk-rock tribute trends and goth night explosions, Juanita's focus stays primarily, perfectly, on that sublime subcultural slice of sonic history known formerly as "race music" and currently as R&B. Her dazzling production numbers utilize large casts of extras, several acts, and impeccable costumery that pays tribute to everything from Scott Joplin's ragtime to Motown's spangled sizzle, dirty underground '70s funk to Patti LaBelle's roof-raising histrionics. When she's on spliff-passing point, as she so often is, her numbers open up a pulse-pounding window into other, more bootyful, worlds.” SF BAY Guardian

harvey 2.jpg

Harvey Milk LGBT Democratic Club - The Sylvester Pride in The Arts Award, 2014

The Harvey Milk LGBTQ Democratic Club, one of San Francisco's largest Democratic clubs, is respected for its progressive history, political actions, empowering activists and members of marginalized backgrounds, and bolstering the resistance to status quo politics, changing rather than obeying power dynamics that leave members of our community out in the cold.

Founded in 1976 as the San Francisco Gay Democratic Club, it was the city's first Democratic club with the word "gay" in its name, a controversial and radical move at the time. The Club was renamed for Supervisor Harvey Milk after his assassination in 1978.

Human Rights Commission - HERO Award, 2016

The Human Rights Commission works to increase equality, eradicate discrimination, and to protect human rights for all people.  Each year, the HRC and its Equity Advisory Committee seek to acknowledge and honor those individuals and organizations who, through their daily efforts, advance civil and economic rights in San Francisco’s diverse and multicultural communities. This year, we issued a special call for nominees whose work exemplifies the theme of “Communities Organizing for Justice.” A large number of accomplished and notable individuals and organizations were nominated for consideration. The Hero Awards selection committee had a very difficult task selecting the finalists from such a list of remarkable candidates. Each honoree demonstrated their commitment to pursuing justice in San Francisco through community organizing, advances the mission of the HRC, and is a “HERO” worthy of praise.

The Matriarch Award: Juanita MORE!

Fifteen years ago, Mama G’s Street Dinners was born out of a vision of a shared holiday gathering right in the heart of San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood. A few volunteers came together, and within the span of a few hours, served a nourishing, comforting Thanksgiving meal to those who passed by.

Fast forward to last year's Mama G's last Thanksgiving Street Dinner in November of 2022 where 100+ volunteers served over 650 meals! On top of that, we recently crossed another big milestone – serving over 1,000 meals throughout 2023 with our Burrito Project. Suffice to say, Mama G’s is making the biggest impact it’s ever made.
